The Iron Sludge Utilization
KMT International, Inc. provides complete scope of services for processing of different kinds of metallurgical sludges generated during outgoing gases wet treatment. Such sludges typically collected in the sludge ponds or lagoons.
Scope of services includes:
- Sludge sampling procedure development and sampling of representative specimens;
- Research of sludge characteristics depending on lagoon zones and deepness of sludge bed based on comprehensive samples analyzes including chemical, granulometric, phase and sedimentation analyzes;
- Recommendations for the sludge removal from the lagoon in order to achieve the most stable sludge composition, which could guarantee the further sludge stable processing parameters;
- Filtration tests and recommendations for more acceptable type of dewatering equipment that is available on a market;
- Granulation and drying tests, development of the drying process conditions that could minimize dust emission. Selection of the most acceptable drying equipment for such particular application;
- Material compacting tests based on lab briquette-press. Determination of the best binders composition and their consumption that allows to produce strongest briquettes.
- "Green briquettes" cure tests;
- P&ID drawings;
- Process logic control drawings;
- Main and auxiliary equipment pick up for the proposed process implementation;
- Basic data for the civil work drawings development;
- Assistance during system setup and startup;

KMT International, Inc. has an experience to perform such job. In cooperation with our Ukrainian partner, company named ONVI, we made complete research of steel converter sludges as well as complete scope of sludge tests as above. The Base Project was delivered to the customer - Ukrainian steel mill "Azovstal". Scope of work included modifications of the existing water treatment and recommendations for the sludge processing (dewatering with filter-presses, drying process, briquetting).
